Highline Virtual Elementary, a new online school, will open in September 2022. The school will accept a limited number of students in kindergarten through 5th grade. Highline Virtual Elementary will be the only all-remote option for students in grades K-5 in the 2022-23 school year.

Highline Virtual Elementary will have a different learning model and principal than the self-paced Highline Virtual Academy for grades 6 through 12. At least 70% of elementary learning time will be in synchronous (real-time) instruction.

Students will be taught using instructional materials adopted by Highline, and instruction will be provided by Highline staff.  We will provide Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, as well as instruction in Race and Identity and Social-emotional learning. Students will participate in PE, Music and Library.

Highline Virtual Elementary is designed to support students who thrive in a virtual setting. The staff at Highline Virtual Elementary will provide face-to-face experiences in an online environment and build relationships with students and families to deliver on Highline’s promise to know every student by name, strength and need.

Similar to in-person learning, regular attendance during scheduled synchronous/live instruction will be expected. Laptops and chargers will be provided. Hotspots will be available upon request.

The school will serve students who qualify for English language learning services  Special education services and programming will be provided with some limitations, dependent on a student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

The dual language learning program will not be available in Highline Virtual Elementary.

Students and families can apply for Highline Virtual Elementary now. If interest exceeds enrollment capacity, students will be selected by lottery. Students living in the Highline service area will be prioritized over students from other districts.

The application window will close on April 15, 2022. We invite students to apply through SchoolMint.
