May 6 is School Lunch Hero Day, a national day of celebration for school nutrition staff.
Our Highline Nutrition Services team will serve an estimated 2.6 million meals by the end of this school year!
Highline continues to participate in Farm to School by promoting and serving locally grown foods. This exposes students to a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables from local farms and growers.
Highline is one of four school districts in Washington state awarded a Team Nutrition grant to develop new recipes to be shared with school districts around the nation. So far staff members have worked on recipes for fruit leather, salmon tacos, black bean and cheese pupusas, and huckleberry cornmeal muffins. These school lunch items may show up on menus across the country!
Our kitchen staff strives to make the cafeteria a positive place for our students. This year they developed serving methods to meet individual school safety plans.
Thank you for supporting our dedicated Highline nutrition professionals and the school meals they make and serve!
